D. Mariappan

 

Mariappan's unwavering passion for tennis began at a young age, despite contracting polio at the tender age of three. In May 2005, he found his calling when the All India Tennis Association (AITA) organized Wheelchair Tennis coaching, providing him with the opportunity to engage in the sport he had always desired. Driven by his determination, Mariappan's journey led him to participate in the prestigious International Tennis Federation Player Development Scheme in London. Representing India in the Para Asian Games held in China in 2010, he showcased his remarkable talent on a global stage, serving as a testament to his dedication and skill.

 

For Mariappan, Wheelchair Tennis became more than just a sport—it became a source of confidence, good health, and fitness. Through the challenges he has faced, the game has empowered him, enabling him to embrace life with renewed vigor. Mariappan's achievements are testament to his exceptional abilities. As the winner in the Doubles category at the All India Wheelchair Tennis Tournament held in Chennai in December 2022, he showcased his outstanding teamwork and prowess on the court. Additionally, he reached the quarter-finals in Singles at the prestigious International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament MTA Open 2022, held in Turkey.

 

Mariappan's journey embodies resilience, determination, and the pursuit of excellence. He continues to inspire others through his remarkable accomplishments, breaking barriers and leaving an indelible mark in the world of Wheelchair Tennis.
